Yup, one of our chookies is a he… I realised it about three days after we brought them here, and my sister in law texted me about it that same night. Three days after that he started crowing, at 4.41, 5.01, 5.21, 6.13 and that’s when I gave up trying to sleep! I can’t believe that in catching them and clipping their wings neither of us realised! Doh!!!
So we’re trying to find a home for him where he’ll have some girls to look after, and I may have found someone who wants him through Freecycle. We’ve bought another hen, (definately a hen!) from a breeder here, she’s a young point of lay Hy-line pullet. So far this week we’ve had one egg from her, that Dian ate for lunch, and an egg without a shell. Interesting…. hopefully she’ll start laying more proper eggs soon.
