No more FaceBook

Earlier today I deactivated my Facebook account.  It’s sucking out too much of my time, and I’m finding that I’m overwhelmed with knowing exactly what EVERYONE is doing at every moment of each day.

Sure, it’s been fun, and there are some things that I’m missing already – like being able to ask for links to recipes.  But I’ve had several more hours to get things done today, instead of being lost in the Facebook haze.  It’s a good thing!

Maybe in time I’ll turn it back on, do a huge friend cull and maybe use it again.  But for now, I need to concentrate on my own study, Dian’s homeschooling, being a single parent for the next six months (hubby is being deployed overseas again) and all the other roles that I have.

It’s time for me.

I too am thinking of doing this. I am unhappy with the way the who “thing” is going and its now heading towards showing “friends” every move you make…. can you please let me know how you did this. Thanks.

I just did the massive cull thing a few weeks ago…for much the same reasons as you! I woke up one night to the fact that was spending EVERY evening on FB, usually about an hour, surfing, catching up on comments in groups I belonged to, exchanging witticisms on friends walls. I would rather spend this time with my family, or catching up in the house or even reading a good book! I decided to unfriend anyone I could contact by phone without making a long distance phone call, with the exception of my teenagers (whose pages I like to keep an eye on for obvious reaons), which basically left me with about a dozen “friends” most of whom are relatives on another continent or live a 5 hour plane ride from here :) . I did spend a week feeling like I had nothing to do (!!!), but I’m over it…
