7 Habits of Highly Effective People

I’ve been rereading this book by Stephen Covey, the first time I read it I think I was only around twelve years old! I really didn’t ‘get it’ then, but it shows how long I’ve been into reading Personal Development books!
Anyway, I started reading it again recently, and have set myself a “Challenge” to focus on and develop one habit a month for the next seven months. I’ve been blogging about it on one of my business sites, Excellence Coaching, and will be updating over the months on that site.
The first habit that I’ve been focussing on for July is Being Proactive, looking at what is in my Circle of Influence and what is in my Circle of Concern.
I’ve been finding it challenging, because I can no longer whinge about something (ok, it hasn’t stopped me totally) I need to work out what I can change, what is in my circle of influence, and let the rest go. Whining and complaining is much easier!

All the best Mel! FWIW, I don’t think whining and complaining is easier… it only *feels* like its easier because that is the habit that you have been most exposed to. One day, you will probably look back and realise that being proactive is actually easier because you have built up your strength from within and people are attracted to that and will want to help you.
I know what you mean- I read the 7 Habits for highly effective teenagers when I was 14 but I recently went back and read the original version- and now I am actively trying to apply them to my lives. Also, I don’t know if you have heard this but Stephen Covey just launched an online community last week (www.stephencovey.com). It’s worth checking out- especially if you are reading 7 habits. It’s meant to go alongside the book to help implement principles and provide a support group and to track your goals. And it’s fun! Anyways you should check it out!
I will definitely check this book out. Good luck with your challenge!
