My Mum’s in Gaol!!!

Posted under Family

And so is her husband… For a whole week… I’ll bet no one knew I came from a family of gaolbirds huh??? Ok, so while they ARE in gaol for a whole week, Bathurst Gaol in NSW, they’re in there voluntarily. They are a part of a gaol ministry called Kairos Ministry that is worldwide and goes into gaols to talk to the inmates about God. The ministers stay in or near the gaol for the week and are totally out of contact with the outside world.

Mum and Gordon (her hubby) have been doing this for about ten years I think. I’m really proud that they go in there and do this, I’m not sure I’d be game to! :-)

So proud of my little chookie!!!

Posted under Pets

Boo Two laid her second egg today, so I had it for lunch. Yum!

She laid the first one the day after she arrived here, then about two days later laid a shell-less egg and then nothing for the last several days. Which is quite normal both for a young layer and for a chook who has been moved and stressed.

Then today I found another, it’s only little, but it was nice! And how fresh does it look in the pic! The egg never even got the chance to cool down, it was cooked while it was still warm. The yolk isn’t all that yellow yet, Boo Two is still learning to eat greens, and just this morning I noticed that she is now scratching at the ground, another new skill for her! So proud of my girl!

It was fertile too, so Boo the rooster has obviously figured out how to do his job! If only he would stop crowing from 4.30 am onwards….

Three days and he’s back!!!

Posted under Family, Venting

Eddie’s been away for the last two and a half weeks on another Army course, he was only home for about four or five weeks since the last one! I can’t wait until he gets home on friday, I’m so fed up with having him gone. I’ve found this time much harder than the first time he was away, haven’t coped as well as before. Dian had tummy aches for several days when he left, all related to stress. I can’t even begin to imagine what it would be like to have him away for a year in somewhere like Iraq! He’d be happy to go, but I sure don’t want him to!

Three days and my boy is home!!! Then it’s school holidays and we’re going away for a week or so!

Get that out of my car!!!!

Posted under Family, Pets

Went to pick Dian up from school today and she got in the car with a plastic container that normally carries some small toys. Today though, it had grass, leaves and sticks in it… So I ask “What’s in there?” She’s often brought home insects, lizards and the like, and that’s fine. But today she says “Spiders!” and if I could have teleported out my car door and away from her I would have! I was flattened against my car door and trying to keep the hysteria out of my voice… they were redbacks, a poisonous spider in the black widow family!

So I’m there trying not to yell “Those are not coming in my car nor my house!” and Dian is trying to tell me that they’re fine, they can’t get out…. and after all “Chelsea has some too!” Like that makes it alright… Chelsea is known for copying Steve Irwin, without the common sense that he had. Apparently she had picked these spiders up IN HER HANDS to put them in the containers! One of Chelsea’s was a redback, the other was a whitetail spider, known for it’s necrotic poison…

After much drama the spiders (Dian’s, not Chelsea’s) were released back into the school garden, the container was certified empty and we went home, crying child and all. Apparently I’m now the worst mum in the world which is a bit of a comedown from being the best mum in the world on saturday. Can’t win them all I guess….
